3ds Max Vray Normal Map

The normal maps are going through a vraynormalmap node. In the example shown here, a metal normal map is used in the normal map slot and a separate plank texture is used for the bump map slot. But the composite node is not supported in vray rt.

It will still have an effect of course but it won't work as intended. To stop 3dsmax applying a reverse 2.2 gamma to your normal map go into the image file dialog and set the gamma to: Only plug the maps into the respective node, for normal use bump map, for specular use refl gloss map, for ambient occlusion use vray dirt map. If you really wish to render tangent space normal maps inside 3ds max, you can always use the old handplane3d tangent space calculator to convert a baked object space normal map to 3ds max's tangent basis.
